Hi. What follows here is absolutely everything you could ever need to know about me. In about 604 words. I was born in Los Angeles in May of 1970 to Mr. and Mrs. John Dale Fry – father John Dale and mother Barbara Sue. These are my parents and they are wonderful people. My mother would rather I didn’t call her “Barbara Sue,” as she prefers to go by just “Sue,” but I think it’s a cool name so that’s what I call her. We all lived together in California, along with my older brother Eric Morgan Fry, until one day in 1976 when my parents sold the house, bought a little travel trailer and a green 4x4 Dodge Power Wagon and towed our asses up to Oregon. We lived in that very same trailer on my Aunt Janelle’s property while my dad supported us by doing odd jobs which he advertised via custom-routed sideboards on his Dodge that read “Jack of All Trades.” It was pretty fun, actually. Especially because we also occupied this little trailer with our black labrador named “Butch” and our two cats called “Sam” and “CatCo.” Yes, friends, those were some magical times. And I was raised in Oregon from that point on, jumping around the state a bit – attending high school in Salem, going to the University of Oregon in Eugene where I played frisbee and studied journalism, and then moving to Portland once I graduated.
For some reason I feel compelled to tell you at this point that I have always loved riding my bicycles. And when I was in college, I found the church of mountain biking. This was 1990, and I’ve pretty much been riding both road and offroad ever since. I also love to surf waves, ride my snowboards and run. I basically just love being outside and breathing hard. I know I’m jumping topics like a crack addict right now and cutting out massive chunks of time, but believe me, if I didn’t do this you’d really start to get tired of this little bio. Now where was I? Oh yeah. Bikes. When I moved to San Francisco in 1996 my cycling took off more than ever, as did my surfing. My advertising career wasn’t exactly setting any fires, but man did I love Northern Cal. The mighty Pacific Ocean was right outside my door, as were the pristine trails and smooth pavement of Marin County. I lived in the city by the bay until early 2003 when I suddenly up and moved about as far away as a person could while still being a resident of the United States. The place: Miami, Florida. Home of hurricanes, debilitating humidity, curiously filthy cars with horrible window-tinting and arguably the best creative advertising agency in the world – Crispin Porter + Bogusky – the sole reason I moved there. So, after arriving in Miami-Dade County, I hunkered down and focused on my copywriting career. Which now, over seven years later, has really seemed to pay off. I currently live in Boulder, Colorado where I am now Chief Creative Officer of a new agency we started in October of 2009 called Victors & Spoils – and I can tell you that this little mountain hamlet on the edge of the Rocky Mountains is especially wonderful for the aforementioned outdoor pursuits that I enjoy pursuing (except of course for the wave riding). Okay. That’s all you need to know. Thanks for reading all this.
